WRCU is Colgate University's student-operated radio station. We broadcast throughout Central New York on 90.1 FM, and we serve Community of Hamilton and beyond with a wide variety of content. Our programming extends across all genres of music and news coverage, including alternative, indie, rock, jazz, classical, and variety. As a station, we are and have always been student-led. We pride ourselves on our commitment to quality programming as well as providing our DJs with unique radio experience not often available to undergrads.

In 1938, the Colgate Maroon featured student advocacy for the construction of Campus “radio workshop” that could allow students to learn about the broadcasting process. By 1950, the student activities council had approved funding to build a radio station. WRCU was born and the station rapidly became a hub for Campus life, occupying all kinds of spaces and taking on countless missions.

In the early 60s it was the only college radio station in the United States to broadcast the Yankees’ daytime baseball games. In the 70s it was a “progressive rock” station, and by 1979 its massively upgraded transmitter could reach the 125,000 people in Madison and Chenango counties that it reaches today. WRCU’s past is as unique and inspiring as its presence today, and our mission is to continue serving as a voice for our students and our community.

Our station is a thriving Community of students who wish to learn about and be a part of all aspects of university radio, whether it be reaching out to promoters or producing legal IDs. If you want to be a part of our team or you just want a quick tour of our station, feel free to contact us or stop by!
